For community members experiencing food insecurity, Feeding Champlain Valley has food shelves in Chittenden and Addison Counties which provide free food and meals, as well as other services. Feeding Champlain Valley prides itself on offering a dignified marketplace, where staff and volunteers treat each guest with respect. Guests have access to translation services and will be registered through PantrySoft, our pantry management software.

Am I eligible to receive assistance?

TEFAP (The Emergency Food Assistance Program), is administered at the federal level by the Food and Nutrition Service, an agency of the USDA. Requirements are based on a chart that is updated annually. (Check back soon for an updated chart!)

Can I still receive food from Feeding Champlain Valley if I'm receiving 3SquaresVT benefits?

Yes! Families and individuals who are eligible to receive 3SquaresVT benefits, also known as SNAP (short for the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), can also receive food from Feeding Champlain Valley.3SquaresVT benefits help income-eligible people purchase groceries and come on a plastic card called an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card.Our staff will review eligibility for 3SquaresVT benefits and will help guests through the application process, if they aren’t already enrolled.

Am I eligible to receive food from the Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) if I also receive 3SquaresVT benefits and food from Feeding Champlain Valley?

Yes! People 60 years of age or older, living in Vermont can participate in other federal nutrition programs like 3SquaresVT.

How often can you visit each Food Shelf?

Community members in Chittenden County can access our Food Shelf in Burlington once a week; community members in Addison County can access our Food Shelf at Addison Community Action once per month.

What foods are available?

Our neighbors who come to our food shelves can choose from a variety of fresh produce, baked goods, canned & dry goods, prepared meals, toiletries, and other items at both locations. If possible, please bring your own bags, as we have a limited number of boxes.

Hours for our Food Shelf serving Addison County, located at Addison Community Actionat 54 Creek Road, Suite A in Middlebury: Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM (no service on Vermont State Holidays).

When and where can I receive a meal?

At our Food Access Center, located at 228 North Winooski Avenue in Burlington, we provide a seated meal, open to the entire community, Monday through Friday from 9:00 – 11:00 AM, and grab and go meals are available from 9:00 AM – 2:30 PM.
